What is Homsher thinking about?  Despite the fact that the overwhelming awesomeness inside my brain might cause yours to explode, I decided to let you have a small sampling.

1. The NBA playoffs have been pretty entertaining; except for the fact that just about every single team that I was rooting for has lost.  Both the Pistons and Spurs continue to haunt my television set, to the point that I am actually rooting for the Celtics and the Lakers to win their conferences, something I NEVER thought would be possible in my lifetime.  Right now, I think the Lakers are probably going to win the whole thing.  Kobe Bryant is absolutely destroying people right now, including RIPPING APART the excellent defense of Bruce Bowen.  More importantly, the Lakers’ role players are playing with a lot of confidence.  My picks the rest of the way:

Lakers over Spurs in 7
Celtics over Pistons in 7

Lakers over Celtics in 6

Pretty much unguardable

2. Tiger Woods’ knee surgery is going to derail one of the greatest seasons in golf history.  Even with his disappointing defeat in the Masters, he’s won 3 out of 5 tournaments this year, and been 2nd in the two others he has entered.  With 2 months off while recovering, Tiger isn’t going to be ready at the US Open, and he isn’t going to be in contention come Sunday.  The course is simply too hard to take all that time off and walk into the brutal setup without major practice and competition leading up to the event.  That only leaves 2 more majors for him to win, and even as good as he is, you can’t expect him to do better than 50% in them.  I predict that he wins either the British or the PGA, with 8 total victories.  In short, he’s going to have the sort of season that any other tour pro would kill for, but not the greatness we were hoping for just a few months ago.

What could have been?

3. The NHL playoffs have actually been worth watching, which is incredible and unexpected.  1st off, I need to give a shout out to my Philadelphia Flyers, who had a great playoff run into the Eastern Conference Finals, where the finally fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins.  It should be an exciting few years for us, considering that we finally have a young, fast, tough team with a goalie who plays big in big games.  Detroit should take down the Penguins in the finals in 5 or 6 games.  Detroit has been the best team all season long, and the young Pittsburgh team is going to have to lose once before they can win.

4. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls marked the return of one of my favorite movie heroes of all time.  Something about a college professor that fights the Nazis on the side is always going to appeal to me.  The movie was definitely a fun nostalgic return to my childhood.  However, I was mildly disappointed overall.  Two major issues drove this for me; there wasn’t enough emotional attachment to any non-Indy characters and the reveal at the end was too great.  Overall, I rank it 8 out of 10.

Awesome, but disappointing

5. Iron Man, on the other hand DOMINATED!!  I went into this movie with zero expectations, and the movie turned out to be one of the best comic book movies ever made.  It had a great plot, great humor, and great action.  I can only hope the inevitable sequel is just as good.

DOMINATION

6. Memorial Day was a long overdue day off.  I spent mine playing a HORRIFIC round of golf with a friend.  I shot my worst score in over 2 years.  On the bright side, I was golfing and not working.  Let’s hope you were doing the same.
