Dave’s thoughts on the Eagles in no particular order
 
 
#1 - This defense is playing FANTASTIC right now.  The stopped the NFL’s best run offense TWICE on key 4th and short plays yesterday.  They are making HUGE turnovers at key points in the game ( Asante ’s pick was our only Offense for 28 minutes yesterday). 
 
#2 - B-Dawk is out of his mind.  He has just been crushing anyone and anything that stands in his path right now. 
 
#3 - I don’t usually believe in any “team of destiny” crap, but the Eagles might be a team of destiny.  They were dead in the water just a few weeks ago.  They were an Oakland Raiders loss from being out of the playoffs.  Oakland, a 13 point underdog, came back from 10 points down with 8 minutes left, and then the Eagles STILL had to beat a Cowboys team fighting for its own playoff lives.  Then they knock off Minnesota and NY, 2 division champs, ON THE ROAD to enter the NFC title game FAVORED against a scrappy Arizona team.  It is absolutely mind-boggling.  The Eagles are a freak of nature, a team that has no business still playing football, and here they are on the doorstep of greatness.  If they win 2 more games, they go from being the most disappointing Eagles team of all time with 1 day left in the regular season, to the greatest Eagles team in history. 
 
#4 - That was the 2nd best Eagles win of my entire life (behind beating Atlanta to go to the Super Bowl in 2004).  For them to beat the defending Super Bowl Champions, a bitter division rival, the #1 seed, the EFFING GIANTS on their home field is about as satisfying a win as you can possibly have. 
 
#5 – This conversation is a thing of beauty

 eagles are SOOO flawed

 its not even funny how many holes they have
 but it dont matter
 all that matters is they have 2 games left
 one they are favored to win...and if they win it...one they will be less than a TD underdog to win
 they have a potential for TWO winnable games
 very winnable
 and if they win both
 their flaws become irrelevant forever
 and you and I go back to Broad Street where we belong
 
#6 – Asante Samuel is seriously earning that huge paycheck.  Two playoff games, 2 INTS, 1 TD, and NEARLY another TD (he came up 2 yards short, but set up the Eagles first score).  He’s accounted for as many TDs (2) as the Eagles D has allowed the past 3 games. 
 
#7 – Donovan McNabb might say that his benching against Baltimore had nothing to do with his current play, but he is full of crap.  He has played so much better, so inspired since that benching.  He’s a completely different player.  He wasn’t flawless yesterday, but that was a BRUTALLY hard-hitting game in the cold against one of the best defenses in the NFL.  He didn’t make the big mistake, and came up with several huge plays, most notably and incredible scramble and throw to convert a 3rd and 20 to Jason Avant.  That helped set up an Akers field goal, giving the Eagles the lead for good at 13-11.  He’s played with such a chip on his shoulder the past 7 weeks.  You think he might want a rematch against the Ravens??
 
#8 – DeSean Jackson is a huge, HUGE weapon.  What a terrific draft pick!!  Last week the guy killed the Vikings on punt returns, and this week he had 4 catches for 81 years, and I believe all 4 were for first downs (might’ve been 3 out of 4).  He had 1448 total yards (including punt returns) as a rookie and almost had 1000 receiving yards.  His speed and confidence consistently make him a factor and a deep threat the opponent has to gameplan for.  Now he’s accounted for 226 total yards in 2 playoff games, and might be the deciding factor in the Eagles playoff run. 
 
#9 – Did I mention Dawk is a beast?
 
#10 – Prediction for next week – The Eagles defense is playing at such a high level that they should be able to contain a terrific Cardinals offense.  Sheldon and Asante should be able to hold Fitzgerald to something respectable with safety help (respectable for him is about 100 and 1 TD).  Edgerrin James has been rejuvenated, but he hasn’t faced the Eagles run defense yet.  If the Cardinals are going to beat us, it will have to be through the air.  As the Philadelphia offense has been avoiding the big mistake, they should be able to stop Arizona ’s run of causing turnovers by their opponents.  Although this one should be close, I think McNabb and the O get the job done.  A late Akers field goal puts the game out of reach.  Eagles 27, Cardinals 17.
