What the hell happened to rewarding loyalty? Remember when you used to go to a store, and actually get hooked up because you went there all the time?
I went to this local pizza joint the other day. I ordered some delicious pizza and delicious wings. I was very excited, as I had had my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago and could finally eat wings again. I go in there, everyone knows me by name.
Then these useless douche nozzles charge me extra for wing sauce. I just spent 30 bucks at this place for wings and pizza, and you're gonna charge me for wing sauce? The thing is, this isn't a charge that happens consistently. In-fact, it wasn't even a fair price. The beauty of this, is that it was a trend that had started a few months back.
I used to be able to go to this pizza place and get my food, and they wouldn't nickle and dime me. They would give me extra wing sauce, or pizza sauce, or a dead hooker at no charge.
SO let me get this straight, you never charged me before, but now that you know me, you start charging me? Way to reward customer loyalty.
This got me to thinking, where else have I seen loyalty be completely pooped on, while new customer get hooked up? Ohh, there are many, but we will talk about everyone's favorite.
 Loyalty is Useless
Comcast - The pinnacle of Suckitude.
My cable bill is over 100 bucks a month, and thats just for cable tv and internet. Yet on the cable TV I PAY FOR, I see ads from COMCAST OFFERING MORE CRAP FOR A LOWER RATE.
 Only a matter of time.
WHAT?! You mean I can get a voice line, a data line and tv for 100 a month? Then why the hell am I paying 150 a month? I would never get comcast voice, I have vonage and it works great.
I call comcast, tell them im going to cancel, and they immediately lower my bill.
I LOVE COMCAST YAYYY!!!! Comcast Employee - With the Prepetual Smile.
How many of you has this happened to, and if it hasn't, you should call comcast right now, and ask to cancel. They will give you a better deal.
Here is an idea, how about giving me a better deal without my having to call? Why the hell do I have to cancel to get the best deal? This model is flawed, for everyone.
Let me explain.
There are three main options for TV for my house. Dish Network, Comcast, and DirecTV.
I started with Dish Network, because at the time they had the most HD Channels. They come out to my house, install a few dishes and hook up the entire thing. This must run them a couple hundred bucks, but it doesn't cost me a thing. I get a promo deal with all their channels, 3 HD boxes and DVR for around 60 a month. Awesome.
As soon as the price goes up, I call Comcast, and have them come out. They remove the dish stuff, they install their equipment and test it. Whoopdi doo, I get comcast now and a boat load of channels for 60 a month.
Now I haven't switched again, because I've grown lazy. Comcast hikes my bill, and I have to call them to cancel it, and they will reduce it.
HOW ABOUT JUST REDUCING IT? HOW ABOUT SENDING ME A LETTER IN THE MAIL TELLING ME THAT I HAVE A NEW PROMO FOR BEING A GOOD CUSTOMER?
Nope, I have to call to cancel, and then they would hook me up. Well, that's just absolutely ridiculous. I've never paid a bill late, and have had the internet service now, for over 10 years. How about giving me the best damn rate you have, as I am an ideal customer?
This is a trend not only in TV or Internet Service Providers. It is a trend for lots of things.
Your cellular bill. Call and try to cancel, you will get a better deal. I have been a Sprint Customer for years as well. My bill sky rocketed, I called up to cancel and they sent me 5 new phones (I have a family plan), and lowered my rate to just under 100 bucks for all five. Why not just give me a call one day (i know you have my number), and say, "Hey Mr. Patel, we've lowered your bill due to your supreme awesomeness." That would be absolutely fantastic.
The thing is, changing providers is a little bit of a pain in the butt. The upside is, you you usually don't have to.
How about your professional careers? How many times have you seen a company let someone great go, because they wouldn't accommodate them? I've seen companies hire people, at very high salaries because these new people MIGHT be awesome, while constantly undercutting the best they already have. Why? Because people grow complacent, and comfortable. These companies say, lets try and hire the best, pay them whatever, and we will have the best people.
No morons, you should make the best you have absurdly happy. Look at Google! They make hiring hard, and keep the best they have super happy.
They Look Pretty Happy to Me!
Companies pay a lot for new people, yet the tried and true get hosed. You know how they always tell employees, "the grass isnt always greener?"
Well, that message needs to be sent to the companies as well. Keep the people you value, happy. Its pretty freaking simple.
Please people. All of you, we can make this model change.
Don't grow complacent. call your service providers and tell them you're going to cancel. They will give you a better deal.
